There were no last-minute surprises when the deadline for Parliamentary candidates to enter the General Election fray passed yesterday afternoon.

There will be the five previously announced contesting the poll.

The Conservatives will be represented by Andrew Stephenson, who has been Pendle’s MP for the last five years.

Labour’s candidate is Azhar Ali, a former Pendle Council leader and the current Lancashire County Councillor for Nelson South.

Coun. Graham Roach, the present Mayor of Pendle, is the Liberal Democrat candidate.

Former fireman Mick Waddington will contest the seat for UKIP.

And the line-up is completed by clinical psychologist Laura Fisk, the Green Party candidate.
