Gardeners from across Pendle are invited to come and help themselves to free compost when The Big Heap comes to Nelson next week.
On Wednesday, around 10 tonnes of compost will be available for free from the Goitside car park, off Scotland Road.
It’s being delivered on behalf of Lancashire County Council by Global Renewables Ltd from Farington Waste Technology Park in Leyland. They have produced the compost from garden waste collected from homes across Lancashire including in Pendle.
Carole Taylor, Pendle Council’s Waste and Recycling Co-ordinator, said: This is a great way for us to give something back to the Pendle residents who recycle their garden waste through our collections.
“Last year’s Big Heap compost giveaway in Colne was a really popular event with plenty of individuals and community groups turning up to claim their free bags of compost.
“My advice to anyone who wants some free compost is to come to the Goitside car park as soon as they can after 11am on Wednesday.”
The compost will be available for collection between 11am and 2pm on Wednesday – or until all the compost has been taken if that’s sooner.
Bring a bag to put your compost in and be aware that there’s a limit of two bags of compost per person.
