A Barrowford road was closed after a car crashed into a takeaway and ruptured a gas pipe.

Emergency services were called to Gisburn Road after a blue Vauxhall Astra collided into Rema’s Pizza and Kebab Takeaway at 11-50am.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said it it is believed the driver, a man in his 50s, escaped without serious injury.

She said: “The door to the takeaway has been smashed, and minor damage has been caused to Petty Estate Agents next door. The main piping to the shop [Rema’s] has been ripped open.

“The road was closed and was re-opened at 12-25pm.”

North West Ambulance Service confirmed they attended the scene and transported the driver to Royal Blackburn Hospital. No details of injury were available.

There was no answer at Rema’s Pizza and Kebab Takeaway when Pendle Today tried to ring.

A spokesman at the estate agents said the Barrowford site has been closed for the afternoon, and will re-open tomorrow. Any calls made today are being diverted to the Colne premises.
