PENDLE Council’s Executive will tonight be asked to approve a supplementary estimate of £160,000 for investment in leisure facilities.
A report to the meeting gives details of a review of Pendle Leisure Trust’s sporting facilities and says the repair or replacement of lockers and changing/showering/toilet facilities of West Craven Sports Centre, Pendle Leisure Centre and Pendle Wavelengths should be treated as a priority.
It goes on: “It is acknowledged the state of repair of the facilities, while remaining safe for customers to use, is relatively poor as a result of constant use and general age.
“This applies equally to the lockers which in all cases are those installed when each of the facilities was constructed,” said the report.
“Given these issues, there is an incerasing cost of maintenance and ad hoc repairs to ensure the facilities remain operational. While it is not possible to be definitive, there is equally anecdotal evidence customers are choosing not to use the facilities and in some cases are going to other leisure centres with more modern facilities.”
If funding is approved, the work is expected to start early in 2012.
