Long term exposure to asbestos led to the death of an Earby man, an inquest has concluded.

Andrew Demain Smith (64) of Longroyd Road, was diagnosed with lung cancer in April 2014 and was receiving care at home up to his death on September 20th. Burnley Coroner’s Court heard how he spent over 40 years working with asbestos at Johnson and Johnson in Earby and maintaining boilers without any protection.

Coroner Richard Taylor said: “Due to the fact that Andrew was exposed to asbestos for such a long period of time in his working life, I have no hesitation in returning a verdict of industrial disease.”
