Fall led to death of Barley man

East Lancashire Coroner Mr Richard Taylor has recorded the death of a Barley man as accidental.

David George Weatherill (78), of Stang Laith Cottage, died in the Royal Blackburn Hospital on February 14th after suffering a fall at home on Boxing Day last year.

The inquest heard Mr Weatherill suffered a fractured cranium and was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital’s neurological unit before being transported to Blackburn where his condition deteriorated.

A cause of death was given as empyema as a result of the fall.
