A coroner has concluded that a Nelson man intended to take his own life.

East Lancashire Coroner Richard Taylor was told that Barry Shepherd (63), of Netherfield Gardens, had suffered from depression and had attempted suicide before.

The dead man’s sister, Mrs Marlene Dennett, discovered his body in the bedroom of his ground floor flat in October last year.

She said her brother had had several strokes and had spent time in hospital last year.

A post mortem by Dr Walid Salman revealed the cause of death as hanging and tests showed that there was no evidence that drugs or alcohol were involved.
