NELSON South Labour County Councillor George Adam has expressed deep disappointment at the announcement by Lancashire County Council to close the Marsden Resource Centre, Nelson.

The announcement follows months of speculation over the future of the Rigby Street centre,

which provides services for the physically disabled and people with a sensory impairment.

County Coun. Adam said: “For months now, rumours have been circulating that the centre is to be closed and many users have challenged county political bosses to explain their reasons but they have chose to ignore the people of Nelson.

“This is no surprise as the closure of this centre is yet another example of the Conservatives abandoning areas such as Nelson.”

In recent months, the council has announced the closure of highways, social service and welfare offices and the switching off of the electronic timetable at Nelson Bus Station, and just before Christmas, the closure of the waste recycling centre in Colne.

County Coun. Adam said: “I am angry our Tory councillors in Pendle are happy to sit back and watch their bosses at County Hall taking services away from Pendle.

“They need to wake up and challenge these stupid decisions. It’s not a Happy New Year for Pendle residents - thanks to the Tories.”
