An RSPCA inspector has appealed for information after a third cat from Barnoldswick died of poisoning.

Natalie Taylor believes the cats were poisoned in Wellhouse Square but cannot be sure if it is accidental or whether it was a deliberate act.

Two cats were found dead in Letcliffe Park last week in suspicious circumstances, but it later emerged the owner had the felines put to sleep and was planning to bury them there but could not at the time as the ground was too hard.

Since then, a third cat belonging to the same owner has been put to sleep after falling ill.

Insp. Taylor said: “Cat owners, please be aware that if any cats are showing signs of illness, take them to the vet to be examined as soon as possible.

“I’d also ask people to check sheds and garages to ensure that there is nothing left out exposed which could be harmful as cats are curious animals.

“It is an offence to purposely expose harmful substances to animals.”

Anybody who may have information on cat poisonings should call the RSPCA’s 24-hour number 0300 123 4999 quoting 507/09/02/15.
