A Nelson pensioner’s death was as a result of industrial disease, a coroner concluded.

A post mortem carried out on the body of George Charlesworth revealed a tumour on his right lung which contained traces of asbestos, the hearing in Burnley heard.

Mr Charlesworth (79) died in Andrew Smith Nursing Home in Marsden Hall Road North, Nelson, in November. He had worked in the building trade all his life and built his own house in Kings Causeway.

His wife, Sheila, said her husband had been fit and healthy until he was involved in a road accident in which he sustained skull and brain injuries. After that, he was unable to eat properly and his muscles wasted away up to the time of his death.
