pendle Leisure Trust’s Inside Spa has been short-listed as a finalist for an Innovation Award.

It is part of the Fitness Industry Association’s prestigious Matrix Flame Awards, which recognises excellence and good practice in the leisure industry.

Although the awards have been in existence for a number of years, this is the first time the Spark of Innovation Award has been added to the list – and Inside Spa, part of the Pendle Wavelengths facility in Leeds Road, Nelson, has been chosen from scores of entries as one of the four finalists.

Phil Storey, Chief Executive of Pendle Leisure Trust, said: “This is fantastic news.

“To make it into the final is a massive achievement when you consider we were up against projects from throughout the whole of the country. But obviously we are hoping to win.

“By getting to the final we will gain national recognition, however winning the award will mean we will be remembered!”

To get to the final stage of the competition, Pendle Leisure Trust had to submit a document giving information about Inside Spa and its success story so far. The next stage involved a presentation to a panel of innovation experts.

According to the organisers, the number of entries was absolutely overwhelming and the standard of presentations exceptional.

The winner will be announced during a conference ball in Telford next month.

Inside Spa is probably the first real, accessible public spa in the country and other trusts and local authorities who have visited the Nelson facility are following suit and opening up similar ventures of their own, proving that Pendle Leisure Trust is leading the way in innovation.

The Fitness Industry Association is the trade body which represents both private and public organisations in the health and fitness industry.

These awards are now one of the most recognisable awards within the health and fitness industry. They bring everybody in the industry together to celebrate excellence and best practice.

The Spark of Innovation Award is given in recognition of something exciting, new and innovative that has not only solved the initial problem that it set out to do, but has also made a profound impact on the industry.
