Last-ditch talks to save Nelson Argos store

senior officers from the Argos store chain are to be invited to Nelson for talks in a last-ditch bid to prevent the closure of its Victory Centre outlet.

Members of Pendle Council’s Nelson Committee unanimously agreed to the move in the hope Argos can be persuaded to reverse its decision to close the store at the end of July.

The closure was announced in April.

Argos opened a store in Colne in October, 2009 and also has two outlets in Burnley.

The closure of the Nelson store would leave the Victory Centre with just one unit - the William Hill bookmakers - occupied.

Clothes retailer Shafis moved into Scotland Road last year and the Help the Aged and hairdressers units both closed.
