Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson is calling on Pendle sports clubs to join him for a sports funding workshop he is hosting with Sport England on Friday morning.
The workshop, taking place at the ACE Centre in Nelson from 11am, will see local Sport England representatives sit down with Pendle-based sports clubs and associations to chat through funding options that may be appropriate for them.
Mr Stephenson said: “Sport England are the people tasked by the Government to work with grassroots sports clubs to get people playing sport and living more active lives.
“They have access to funding that can be the difference between a club keeping going, or even getting bigger and better.
“I met with Sport England and asked them to host a workshop in Pendle, as I am often approached by local sports clubs with queries over funding.
“We are quite a sporty, outdoors kind of area and have some really excellent clubs too. I hope many of them will come to hear what Sport England have to say.”
Since 2010, Sport England have made 13 awards to groups across Pendle totalling over £400,000. The biggest award of £150,000 went to Pendle Council to improve facilities but sizeable awards have also gone to Burwain Sailing Club, Colne and Nelson Rugby Club and West Craven Warriors. The agency also runs Pendle Leisure Trust’s Sportivate Programme, which provides fitness membership subsidies to 17-25 year olds, who work with fitness instructors to become more active.
Mr Stephenson, who enjoys walking and is the current Area President of the North East Lancashire Ramblers, added: “Pendle has done well out of Sport England over the last few years, but I am often contacted by clubs who could do with extra support.
“If you are involved in a local sports club, make sure they are sending someone along. And if you are not already involved, why not!”
