The pair, Mrs Diane Levens and daughter, Mrs Caroline Davies, set off from Salford Quays in Manchester to cycle the 40 miles to Otterspool Park in Liverpool following the Trans Pennine Cycle route.

Despite heavy showers on a blustery day the two made it to the finish raising £333 in sponsorship for Pendleside Hospice.

Diane, the secretary of Briercliffe Social Club, said: “Our club has raised funds for the hospice over many years but this year I decided I wanted to try something a bit different.”
