A local estate agents are giving a group of local students an invaluable taste of the working world, drafting in Nelson and Colne College alumni to help create an advert for the firm.
Giving some second year students on NCC's Extended Diploma in Creative and Digital Media course a real-life design brief to see how they would cope, Petty's Estate Agents asked the pupils to create an advert in whatever medium they wished for a specific target audience of first time buyers or growing families.
Working in conjunction with design company Root Fifty Two, the estate agents - which has offices in Barnoldswick, Colne, Nelson, and Burnley - then had Residential Director Ian Bythell chose a winner from the designs alongside Kayleigh James from Root Fifty Two, with 18-year-old Ella Forrest from Accrington winning out.
“We were looking for something innovative and fresh but still in-keeping with Petty’s brand to give the students experience of working to a live brief," said Keyleigh. “The standard was really high and it was difficult for us to choose an overall winner but in the end we all agreed that Ella Forrest’s design just tipped it.”
Ian said: “We’re always keen to be part of initiatives like this one at the college that help develop and encourage our young adults. It was great to see the young talent that’s about and we wish Ella and all the other students every success in whatever lies ahead for them.”
Ella herself, who hopes to go on to study for a degree in Textiles at Loughborough University, said: “I’m so pleased to have won as I know there was some stiff completion. It was really great to be given the opportunity of working to a real brief and I found the whole process interesting and know I can learn from it.
The students' course tutor, Rick Williams, added: “We really appreciate local companies like Petty’s and Root Fifty Two coming in and working with the students, showing them what it’s like in the real world of work! Being able to be creative whilst still working to a clients brief was harder than they thought”
