Police arrested two dozy thieves last night after they tried to escape on foot after their getaway car ran out of petrol in Laneshaw Bridge.

The men, from Yorskhire, had been making their escape after snatching a large quantity of meat from Colne’s Tesco store when they ran out of fuel heading back to cross the county border

The pair tried to escape on foot along School Lane but were tracked down by officers after an extensive search using the force’s helicopter and a search dog.

Police said the men had attempted to run over a staff member at the store when he challenged them and the vehicle was not taxed or insured.
