Pair accused of attack at hair salon

A 21-year-old Nelson man and a teenager have appeared before magistrates after an alleged hairdressing salon attack which left a man with a broken skull, ankle and fingers.

The alleged victim, who is said to have been set upon with a cricket bat and claw hammer during the attack, is currently in hospital having surgery, the Burnley bench was told.

Waqas Sharif, of Ethersall Road, Nelson, and a 17-year-old youth from the Pendle area, are both charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

The younger defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, also faces an allegation of assault by beating against a second alleged victim.

Both defendants indicated not guilty pleas to the allegations.

Sharif was remanded in custody until a hearing at Burnley Crown Court on July 28th.

The teenager was bailed on condition he lives and sleeps at his home, does not contact witnesses, does not go onto Leeds Road, Nelson, and does not associate with his co- defendant.

The defendant must report to his local police station twice a week, between 11-30am and 1-30pm.
