Two people suffered serious injuries when they were struck by a car in Yorkshire Street, Burnley, in the early hours of this morning.
At 12-30am this morning, a man and woman in their 30s were crossing the road when they were struck by a white Fiat Panda, which was travelling from Brunshaw towards the town centre.
The woman sufferd a serious head injury and the man suffered injuries to his shoulder, elbow and ankle.
They were both taken to Royal Preston Hospital where they remain in a serious but stable condition.
The driver of the vehicle, a 22-year-old man from Burnley, stopped at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
Insp Carole Langhorn, of Lancashire Constabulary’s East Division, said: “This was a serious collision and our thoughts are with the man and woman as they remain in hospital.
“We are appealing for any witnesses to contact us as we try to establish the full circumstances”
