Pendle Forest Model Railway Society exhibition runs smoothly

Having taken place at the Burnley Masonic Lodge over the weekend 7th-8th July, the much-loved event was enjoyed by one and all, with the exhibition featuring a wide range of different layouts on show.

The major attraction was the society’s Ecclesford Junction layout, which had modern-image trains running through a varied scenic background. And when the trains weren't running, there was a variety of moving cameos to pique the interest of the audience, including tree felling, building site workers, welders, and even a working television in one of the model shops, all of which caught the eye.

“As the Burnley’s first model railway exhibition for a good many years our show proved a welcome event and all our visitors were impressed by what we had on show," said David Carter, the society's honorary secretary. "The question that many people asked was 'will you be doing this again next year?' to which the answer is most certainly ‘yes!'"

On a more local angle, there was a model of Haslingden station as it was in the days of steam, while a Boiler Road Shed in O-gauge captured the imposing size of steam locomotives. At the other end of the size range, the diminutive locos on Wheatstone Bridge layout captured the look of narrow gauge railways. There was also a trader selling modelling accessories and the society’s ever-popular ‘drive a train’ feature.
