Pendle sporting stars in line for county honours

Community sporting stars from across Lancashire will attend the largest celebration of amateur sport in the county, the Lancashire Sports Awards, at the Hilton Hotel, Blackpool, on Friday night.

And Pendle will have entrants in seven of the eight categories!

The awards will be opened by Adrian Leather from Lancashire Sport Partnership with a helping hand from Commonwealth Games bronze medallist and champion swimmer Daniel Sliwinski. The evening will be hosted by Sky Sports news presenter and rugby league reporter Angela Powers.

The eight award categories have been judged by former England football captain Jimmy Armfield, who will be joined by Jane Booker of MWR Solicitors and Dave Edmondson from the Football League Trust.

Pendle will be represented by:

l Adult Volunteer of the Year: Nick Burton (Barrowford Cricket Club).

l Coach of the Year: Noel Finucane (Pendle Athletic Club).

l Community Club of the Year: Colne Badminton Club.

l Lifetime Achievement Award: Brian Foley (rugby league with Wigan Warriors).

l Rising star: Bethany Widdup (Alpine skiing).

l School of the Year: Blacko Primary School.

l Young Volunteer of the Year: Elizabeth Standing (Pendle Volunteer Programme).
