Pendle Council has received a planning application for the demolition of Pendle Rise multi-storey car park in Nelson town centre.

The application was submitted at the end of May by Fairacre Properties which owns the shopping centre and car park.

The car park is above the former bus station which closed when the town’s new bus and rail interchange opened in 2008.

If planning permission is granted, it would mean that even more of Nelson town centre could be re-developed, further strengthening what the town has to offer, according to Coun. Mohammed Iqbal.

Coun. Iqbal, Leader of Pendle Council, said: “I’m pleased that Fairacre Properties has submitted this planning application.

“The car park has long been an eyesore in the town and is well underused. This a substantial site and could lead to a number of exciting developments.”

Fairacre Properties is actively seeking developer interest in the site should demolition of the car park be given the green light, but there are no agreements in place yet.
