A woman who took £168 of whisky from Morrisons told police she planned to sell the alcohol to buy drugs, a court heard.

Burnley magistrates were told how Victoria June Lee (33) had been seen entering the Nelson store and placing the bottles into a bag. She then walked past the tills without paying. She was seen by a store detective, brought back in and the goods were recovered.

Lee, of Colne Lane, Colne, admitted theft on October 9th. She had 14 offences on her record and was fined £120 and must pay a £30 victim surcharge.

The hearing was told when she was questioned, Lee told police she had gone in the store with the intention to steal and planned selling the drink for cash to buy drugs.

Lee, who represented herself in court, was asked if she wanted to say anything and replied: “Sorry.”
