Police launch murder inquiry after body found in Nelson

DETECTIVES have launched a major investigation after a woman’s body was found at an address in Nelson.

Police made the discovery at a property on Norfolk Street in the town around 3 p.m. on Monday.

The body is believed to be that of a 34-year-old woman who was from Nelson, although formal identification is yet to take place.

A post mortem examination is due to take place today to establish the cause of death.

Detective Superintendent Neil Esseen said: “We are in the very early stages of this investigation, but we are already following up a number of lines of inquiry.

“I would appeal to anybody who believes they have information which could assist with this inquiry to contact police.”

A 33-year-old man from Nelson has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.
