OWNERS of Land Rover Defenders are being urged to be extra vigilant after thieves targeted them for their parts in East Lancashire.

In the last three weeks, thieves have removed bonnets and doors from the vehicles in the Pendleside and Barrowford areas.

Officers have stepped up patrols and are urging anyone with information or who sees anything suspicious to contact the police.

Insp. Phil Davies, from Nelson police, said: “Thieves are targeting the vehicles specifically for their parts which they are selling on.

“The majority of offences have occurred over the last few weeks and I urge people to be extra vigilant and report anything suspicious to the police.

“Where possible, motorists should invest in a good alarm system and park their vehicles in a garage or on a driveway out of view of the roadside.”

Anyone with information can contact police on 0845 1 25 35 45. Alternatively they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
