Council Tax up again in Pendle as council sets budget for year ahead

At the annual Special Budget Council meeting, councillors set the budget for Pendle for the coming year from April 1st.

Leader of Pendle Council, Coun. Mohammed Iqbal MBE said: “We have kept our Council Tax increase as low as possible whilst protecting the vital frontline services which matter to Pendle people.

"This means an increase for a band D property of £5.39 from April 1st for Pendle Council’s share of the Council Tax."

Other key decisions made at the meeting include:

Continuing the free bulky household waste collections which were agreed in last year’s budget; no cuts in the budget for street sweeping across Pendle; continuing to provide replacement bins for free; no increase in cemetery charges this year at the six cemeteries which Pendle Council manages.

Councillor Iqbal added: “Our priority is to maintain front line services. These include bulky household waste collections which we reinstated as a free service from last year, to help local people dispose of things like old sofas and freezers.

"Providing these collections helps to protect the environment and reduce fly tipping in Pendle."
