The closure of a popular Barrowford pub has left the community stunned.
Pendle Borough Council licensing officers shut down the George and Dragon, in Gisburn Road, on Friday, at 3-30pm, to the horror of licensee Chris Joyce, who had just returned from honeymoon that day.
The closure order is thoguht to have come about following the death of one of the business partners at the pub and a failure to remove his name from official documents.
There has already beenn outcry on Facebook over the decision, with Chris being quaoted as saying: “It was a shock when the officer said he was shutting me down with immediate effect. They could have had the decency to give me until Monday. Beer had been tapped and ready to serve. Food had been purchased and prepared for the weekend. Now, I’ve to apply for a temporary events license - and the pub will not be able to open until February 5th.”
