Tributes have been paid to a father of two who has died suddenly at his Brierfield home.
James Stanworth (45), who was known as “Stan”, passed away during the early hours of Monday, March 1st, at his Ray Street address.
He has been described by his wife Helen and daughters Rachael (17), and Frances (15), as a “gentle giant” who “would do anything for his kids.”
It is not known how Mr Stanworth died, but Mrs Stanworth – to whom he was married to for 15 years, said he had been complaining of chest pains prior to his death.
Mrs Stanworth said: “Stan was very well known in the area and everyone is just devastated. Nobody can believe it, it’s such a shock. We have had that many people round to the house it’s been unbelievable. Our friends have been fantastic.”
After a stint as a landscape gardener, Mr Stanworth took up a job at Smith and Nephew but later suffered a fall which would leave him disabled with a serious back injury and unable to work.
Mrs Stanworth said: “After the accident he looked after the kids while I was working, and he loved to take them on days out to the zoo. Sometimes we would go to Scarborough and sit at the seaside aand have fish and chips.”
The family has requested any donations be received by Pendleside Hospice – a charity which Mr Stanworth supported and was dear to his heart.
His funeral will take place today (Friday) at Burnley Crematorium at 3-40 p.m. Inquiries to Co-operative Funeralcare on 619966.
