Revised plans for shutters over windows in shop units currently under renovation in the centre of the town have been approved by Pendle Council’s Nelson Committee.

The original plans for roller shutters, which a planning officer had said would have a fortress-like appearance, had been recommended for refusal.

But the meeting was told that following talks with applicants the Mayan Partnership, revised plans for lattice type shutters had been submitted for the former Woolworths/Burtons unit in Scotland Road and Leeds Road which were acceptable.

The committee also approved plans for replacement shop fronts on the units.
