Spar shop closure leaves post office users in limbo

Post Office users in Barrowford were left in limbo this morning following the closure of the Spar shop in the village.

The shop is understood to have gone into voluntary liquidation at the end of business yesterday, and the post office counter inside the shop was therefore unable to open for business today, leaving would-be customers having to travel to Nelson or Colne.

Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson has spoken to the Post Office and said that it was trying to find alternative premises in Barrowford where it could operate from.

There have been concerns for the future of the Spar shop since Morrisons opened an outlet next door to it in Gisburn Road last year.
