Bringing Barnoldswick Gala Back to the Future was the aim of the game and the town’s spectacular street fair looks to have done exactly that.
People turned out in their hundreds to support the initiative launched by a committee of proud Barlickers who wanted to see the town’s famous gala return in August 2016.
More than £3,500 was raised in four hours of fun and entertainment at the weekend and now the bid has momentum, a business to business auction is planned for October to raise further cash.
Four bands performed, there were dance performances from Britain’s Got Talent Tiny Tots, the original David Hasselhoff Knightrider vehicle sat in the Town Square and talked, Star Wars characters entertained and there were martial arts demonstrations, a fortune teller, barbecue, vintage cars, fairground rides, stalls and more.
Joint organiser of the street fair, Kate Metcalfe, said: “It was absolutely heaving with people.
“We have raised just short of £4,000 so the gala is on its way and everything is coming together.
“Everybody had a fantastic time and I would like to say a massive thank you to everybody who supported it and helped out.
“The bands rocked the square, Darth Vader and his troops caused mischief, the martial arts and dancers were amazing and the games, face painting, hairspraying and fortune teller were brilliant.”
Barnoldswick Gala, first held in 1960, was widely regarded to be the best in the region in its a heyday where people flocked from far and wide to attend, but it has not been held for the last 12 years.
