Teenage boy dies after crashing car into tree

Police are appealing for information after a 16-year-old boy died after crashing into a tree in Burnley last night (Thursday).

At around 9-40pm, the boy was driving a BMW 318SE along Ridge Avenue when he tried to overtake another vehicle and lost control, causing the car to collide with a tree.

The boy suffered multiple injuries and was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital where he sadly died.

A police spokesman said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with the boy’s family and friends at this very sad time. They are being supported by a specially trained officer.

“If you were the driver of a car that was being driven along Ridge Avenue at around 9-40pm from the direction of Queen’s Park, which possibly had to swerve on to the nearside verge due to an oncoming car, please get in contact.

“Similarly, if you saw the blue BMW 3 series being driven around the area last night we would like to speak to you.

“Contact us with info on 101 quoting incident reference 1451 of April 7th.”
