Teenager is slashed in late night town attack

A 17-YEAR-OLD boy was smashed over the head with a bottle and then stabbed in the neck in an unprovoked late night attack in Barnoldswick town centre.

The teenager who has not been named was taken to Airedale Hospital where he required stitches for a deep laceration to the neck.

The incident happened at about midnight on Friday close to the Peking House takeaway in Town Square. Police are now appealing for anyone who may have seen the attack.

Detective Sergeant Mick Cross of Pendle CID said: “This is an unprovoked attack where a young man suffered serious injuries.

“He was struck over the head with a bottle and slashed in the neck causing a deep laceration.

“I appeal for any witnesses who may have seen the attack to come forward.”

• A 24-year-old man residing in Barnoldswick appeared before Pennine Magistrates yesterday charged with Section 18 assault.
