Police are warning motorists that roads could become lethal due to poor visibility and the onset of ice. Drivers are being urged to stay at home or if it's necessary to go out, then to take care and allow more time for their journey.

Roads are closed in several parts of Lancashire due to incidents including an accident on the M65 (junction 6 Blackburn to junction 7 Clitheroe/Accrington). One lane has been closed due to an accident. Traffic officers are currently on the scene.

A spokesman for Lancashire Road Police tweeted: "We have thick fog and freezing conditions across Lancashire's roads this morning so please take care on those essential journeys."
