there was a three per cent increase in crime in Nelson last month compared with September, 2010.

Figures presented to Pendle Council’s Nelson Committee on Monday by Insp. Phil Davies showed that there were a total of 155 incidents compared with 150 12 months ago.

The statistics showed there was an eight-fold rise in the number of house burglaries - there was only one in 2010 - and Insp. Davies said that six of these had been detected - and there had also been a number of shop windows damaged in Whitefield which had seen incidents of criminal damage rise by more than 25 per cent from the previous year.
