Tributes have been paid to a “devoted” family man from East Marton man who died in an accident at a Barnoldswick primary school last week.

Christopher Alan Preston (78), known to family and friends as Alan, died following an accident on the car park of St Joseph’s RC Primary School in West Close Road on Monday, November 16th.

Mr Preston, a member of Barnoldswick and Earby Rotary Club, was at the school delivering an educational exhibition when the incident occurred. He later died in the Royal Preston Hospital.

In a tribute this week, Mr Preston’s family said he was a devoted husband to Jenny, father to Simon, Tim and Jason, and grandfather to Holly, Amelia and Charlotte.

The statement read: “As a Master Mariner, Alan spent over 40 years in the shipping industry.

“In retirement he became a magistrate, and was actively involved as a Rotarian, and as a guide at Skipton Castle. Alan also worked wholeheartedly for St Peter’s Church and in village life.”

Michael Peckover, President of Barnoldswick and Earby Rotary Club, said: “Alan was a good man, and a good member of the Rotary club who was always involved and always wanted to be involved.

“The rotary motto is ‘service above self’ and that just summed Alan up really.”

Mr Preston’s funeral will be held tomorrow (Friday) at St Peter’s Church in East Marton at 11am.

Family flowers are requested only and any donations received at the service will go to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the RNLI.
