Samantha said: “I had picked the children up from school and was on the way home through Barrowford when I saw something was going on. A crowd had gathered and I saw a woman lying on the floor.

“Without hesitation I knew what I had to do and just went into automatic pilot and focused on what I am trained to do.

“The woman was unconscious, I couldn’t feel a pulse but I could feel a faint heartbeat.

“She was fading away, gasping for breath.”

While someone rang for an ambulance Samantha continued with CPR.

She said: “Once the ambulance arrived, I carried on with the compressions and helped to get her into the back of the vehicle.

“I understand from her family she is now on her way to recovery which I’m delighted about.”

Samantha, who has worked at Pendle Leisure Trust for almost 16 years, is modest about her heroic actions saying: “I was just doing my job.”

The mother of three is a qualified pool lifeguard and has her First Aid at Work certificate.

She added: “We have regular training every month which all staff are involved in. “

“It is essential in this industry that every member of staff is trained in all aspects of life-saving – because you never know when you are going to need it.”
