A key Pendle road that has been closed for a week after a water main burst has now re-opened.

United Utilities have been working on the A56 – Leeds Road, Nelson – after the water badly damaged both the road surface and pavement.

The road was closed off and traffic diverted after the burst on Tuesday last week and it was hoped the route could reopen last Friday, although it has taken longer to complete the work and the road was fianlly open this morning.

The closure has led to major diversions and congestion on alternative routes.
