United Utilities staff worked into the night to reconnect water supplies to larges parts of Barrowford, Higherford and Blacko after a water main burst yesterday evening (Saturday).

However, Gisburn Road remains closed opposite the former Nursery Time building this morning.

Emergency supplies of bottled water were supplied to residents whose water was cut off around teatime yesterday as a water pipe in Gisburn Road, near the junction with Church Street ruptured, cracking the road covering and sending a flood towards businesses in the main street, opposite Turners.

There were reports that village pubs had to close and shopkeepers battled to keep the flood water at bay.
