Two men who were due to stand trial this week in relation to modern slavery charges have had their court date adjourned.

The trial of Mohammed Riaz (53) and Khuram Riaz (27), both of Manchester Road, Nelson, was due to begin yesterday at Burnley Crown Court but it will now take place in January, 2017.

The men were summonsed to court in November after charges were authorised by the CPS.

In April 2015, concerns were raised about a Polish couple in Nelson who were believed to have been forced into work. The couple were removed to a place of safety and investigations commenced.

Both Mohammed Riaz and Khuram Riaz have been charged with two counts of knowingly requiring another person to perform forced/compulsory labour between November 1st, 2014 and April 21st, 2015.
