"True gentleman" tribute for Burnley born bakery boss Bill

A sports club chairman has paid tribute to bakery boss Bill Oddie who has died aged 76.

John Sinclair, who is the chairman of Belvedere and Calder Vale Sports Club, described Mr Oddie as a "true gentleman."

Mr Oddie was a former player, chairman and president at the Burnley club.

Mr Sinclair said all the members were "devastated" to hear the sad news about Mr Oddie.

He said: "Bill was a former chairman of the sports club and former president of the rugby club.

"He was a gentle advisor and mentor and a first class rugby player.

"But he was also a man of great sensitivity with a cracker jack sense of humour."

Mr Oddie ran the family business that has its base in Nelson but has shops across Burnley, Pendle, Padiham and Blackburn.

He had worked for the company for 50 years and just celebrated 30 years as managing director.
