A dead dog has been found in a suitcase in a Colne park.

Police were called to Alkincoats Park at 4-30pm on February 24th after a dog walker made the gruesome discovery.

Pendle Council came to remove the dog, and the RSPCA have since been informed by concerned members of the public.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “We were called to a report of a suitcase being found behind a bush in Alkincoats Park. We attended and found a dead dog inside the bag.”

The dog was a medium sized cross-breed and it was not micro-chipped.

RSPCA Inspector Natalie Taylor said: “It appears the dog had been run over and died from it’s injuries. [These are] very unusual circumstances. We can only speculate that the owners couldn’t afford to dispose of the dog at a vet.

“We hope people’s minds are put at rest as we don’t think it has died due to welfare or neglect issues.”
