A NEW volunteering service has had a great response from people across Pendle keen to volunteer.

Pendle-based Volunteer Capacity Building Service is delivered by local charitable company, Calico Enterprise, with Help Direct.

Since launch, VCBS has had lots of interest, with more than 120 citizens becoming involved from across Pendle, with a bank of 19 actively volunteering now.

Mr James Haigh, senior VCBS co-ordinator, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled with the response we’ve had so far. It’s fantastic to see that, especially in these difficult times. Local people are determined to better themselves, improving their own abilities and their communities.

“If you have some spare time to make a real difference, contact us as we have plenty of exciting opportunities for local people to be involved with.”

The aim of VCBS is to provide volunteering opportunities for people in Pendle to support vulnerable children, young people and families.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to develop new skills, enhance their CVs, get references to assist with job seeking and to give something back to their community.

For a few hours each week, they will volunteer in schools and with organisations that work with children, families and young people to provide low level support to people across Pendle who are most at risk, in the hope of preventing more serious issues further down the line.

If you are over 18, live in Pendle, and would like to know more about the service, contact Michelle on 07814 543401 or James on 07792 214755.
