Pendle’s MP Andrew Stephenson has expressed his dismay at ongoing delays to the re-opening of the Post Office in Barrowford.
Barrowford’s post office closed in February and has remained closed since.
I appreciate the Post Office needs to follow due process, but this has dragged on far too longMP Andrew Stephenson
The Post Office had previously confirmed they had appointed a new agent to re-open the branch back in May.
Unfortunately this fell through which meant the tendering process had to start from scratch. All four recent applicants have also pulled out of the process meaning the village remains without a Post Office.
Mr Stephenson said: “Ever since the closure of the old branch, I have been pushing for a new one to open as quickly as possible. The Government have invested significant sums of money in the Post Office to maintain the current number of branches, so there is funding to re-open in Barrowford. I am therefore dismayed that, over eight months on from the closure of the old branch, the Post Office have not been able to identify a new site in Barrowford. I appreciate the Post Office needs to follow due process, but this has dragged on far too long.”
Barrowford councillor Christian Wakeford, said: “I have been contacted by many elderly residents who have really struggled to make alternative arrangements since February. It is really important that a new site for the Post Office is identified and opens without delay. I would urge any Barrowford business owners interested in incorporating a post office into their business to contact the Post Office asap.”
