A man who attacked his ex-girlfriend’s new partner as he walked through a shopping centre, slammed him into a store window and broke it, a court heard.

Pennine magistrates were told how Samuel Bullock grabbed hold of Joshua Kinnear by the throat with both hands, causing his head to hit Wilkinsons window. The victim was shocked and frightened and Bullock stormed off.

He was said to have struck after Mr Kinnear gave him a wry smile and he responded badly to it.

The defendant (22), of Smith Street, Nelson, admitted assault by beating and damage to the tune of £688 on March 21st. He was given a 12 month community order and must pay £60 compensation.

Mr Ben Leach (defending) said: “He could have and should have acted differently.”
