Women encouraged to give golf a go

Women across Burnley and Padiham have been teeing off thanks a new scheme launched by Burnley Leisure.

The Girls Get in2 Golf sessions, which has been funded by Sport England, aims to get women and girls over the age of 14 who are complete newcomers to encourage them to participate in sport on a regular basis and give golf a go.

The course will include tuition from initiative is expected to last 12 months.

Sarah Darcy, sports activator at Burnley Leisure, said: “This is a great new initiative and we are really excited with the popularity so far.

“The project aims to remove traditional barriers associated with gold and create a very social, low cost, relaxed environment where people can have a bit of fun as part of a group, as well as learn some of the skills involved in golf.”

The scheme will run every six weeks and will give beginners the opportunity to take part in weekly sessions run by PGA professionals in the newly opened Prairie Sports Village, using both the driving range and the and the indoor studio with the latest technology that allows them to track their performance.

The course costs £20 per person and includes golf clubs, ball hire, and refreshments.
