I am relieved and happy that Scotland democratically chose to remain as part of the union which has served all nations within it so well for centuries.
Over the last few months, our news headlines have centred around the Scottish referendum and I fear the rest of the UK, in particular England have been side-lined.
With “devolution max” now looking likely for Scotland, it’s time for England to demand more for its 56 million residents.
The English appetite for change has never been stronger. To feed this hunger, I believe the right of Scottish MPs to vote on English matters should be scrapped. Furthermore, I want to see a new constitutional settlement in place, with giving England a fairer deal at the heart of it.
This referendum has given the people of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland an appetite for a new constitutional settlement. I sincerely hope that, in this new settlement, the 86% of the UK population who live in England get a fair deal.
