LETTER: More women need to be involved in council

I WOULD like to thank all the people of Walverden Ward, Nelson, for their support during my full term as an independent councillor for Nelson Town Council. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and commitment and was honoured to have been vice-chairman.

During my serving term, projects such as the Festival of Culture, The Big Lunch and Nelson Town Council Awards allowed me to connect with the community at grassroots level. I also served as a co-opted member on Pendle Council’s Nelson Committee.

I feel female representation is still an area that needs to developed and more females need to get involved in the council as a voice for the people who vote. However, I feel the public should also reach out and question councils about their roles and how their decisions can make differences to the place in which we live.

Thank you to all the councillors for their support, too.
