COLNE’s misery continued as they were thrashed by 146 runs by title hopefuls Accrington at Thorneyholme Road on Sunday.
The Horsfield side have not won since May in the league - and have only two wins from 11 so far.
Skipper Nigel Rimmer won the toss and inserted the hosts, and sub-professional, former Sri Lankan Test spinner Dinuka Hettiarachchi made an early breakthrough as he took a return catch to see off Marley Ali with the score on 17.
The St Annes paid man bowled through the innings, taking 4-91, while David Wallbank also claimed 3-59 - conceding 19 runs off the final over as Graham Lloyd (35 not out) and David Ormerod (16 not out) took the score out to 221-9.
The pair put on 48 for the last wicket to deny Colne, with Ormerod cracking three consecutive boundaries in the final over before running two off the last ball.
Accrington paid man Ashar Zaidi was his side’s top scorer with a 64-ball 62, including six fours and two sixes to move past 500 runs for the year.
Stuart Crabtree added 25.
In reply, Colne were all out for 75, as home captain Jmmy Hayhurst took 5-32 and Ormerod 2-21.
Hettiarachchi (16) and Matt Wilson (13) were the only batsmen in double figures.
On Sunday, Colne will look to end their search for a victory against the side currently rock-bottom of the league, Rishton, who have lost all 11 games.
