Grant stars with the ball for Nelson
Nelson started the 2018 Lancashire League season with a win courtesy of the Duckworth Lewis method against Enfield at Dill Hall Lane on Sunday.
The hosts won the toss and put Nelson in, who had made 99-4 when the rain halted their innings, with Lewis Bradley top-scoring with 41.
Caleb Grant then took 5-31 as Enfield were dismissed for 118, 19 short of their target.
Sub professional, Chorley’s Gayan Maneeshan, made 38 for Enfield.
Russell Bradley, skippering the side for the first time, said: “We lost the toss and they put us in, and with the weather we’ve had, it was a difficult wicket to bat on, very slow, and hard to get the bowlers away.
“They had the ideal attack for that sort of wicket, medium pacers, and in the 39th over we were 99-4, with myself and Caleb (Grant) in, when the rain started, and we didn’t get back on.
“Lewis batted really well when it was difficult to be free-scoring. Then Caleb took five wickets.
“They should have walked it, and they were, but we ran the pro out, with help from him, and bowled well, and it was good to start with a win.”
Nelson host Ramsbottom on Sunday, and hope pro Reeze Hendricks will be fully kitted out!: “Rammy at home will be tough, they had a good win against Darwen, and are always a difficult side to play, but we’ll focus on ourselves.
“The pro arrived last Friday, but the French baggage handlers lost his bags! He had to use someone else’s kit, and “he played in trainers, which wasn’t ideal!”
