Barnoldswick Town suffered two more defeats over the week, going down at home to Bootle in the league, before a West Riding County Cup exit at Silsden on Tuesday.

On Saturday against Bootle, Town took a third-minute lead as Joel Melia raced clear past Shaun Harris, and his cross deceived keeper Dean Porter and nestled in the top corner.

The second half started with a bang as substitute Dominic McGiveron scored twice in the first three minutes. From then on Bootle took the game to Town, who rarely looked like equalising.

Then on Tuesday, Town went down at Silsden.

The hosts went ahead, arguably against the run of play, on 20 minutes as Tom Henderson crossed to the far post, where Craig Nicholls scored from two yards out.

Silsden increased their lead after 35 minutes when the ball was played across the goalmouth and skipper Daniel Gleave scored.

It was 3-0 10 minutes after the break as Henderson scored at the second attempt, and Zack Dale added a fourth before Nicholls’ fierce shot was turned into his own goal by Shaun Airey.

Tomorrow Town are at Ryhope CA in the FA Vase second qualifying round.

Town’s East Lancashire League side won 5-1 at Worsthorne on Saturday with goals from Aidan Lee (4) and older brother Keiron.
